Introduction

We’ve used columns and filters in previous exercises to create views with their help. If you have put together a composition of columns that you want to use more often, you can save that composition as a template. Such a template is called a content type.

In a list, we were introduced to the content type item.

Remember the comparison made with an Excel spreadsheet. A row in such a table is called a content item. You can add columns, but it remains a list.

When we started working with the library, I explained that a document is, as it were, an item with a file attached to it.

An important hierarchy is visible here

  • item
  • file
    • page

Learning objective

Understand the concept of content types and how they relate to columns, how the hierarchy from item to document or page is structured, and how to use it.

The exercise

The trainer shows the team how to create a content type for a specific goal.

The challenge for the trainees is creating a content-type risk.

This is no longer monkey see monkey do. We’ll guide you through where the settings are but we are not explaining how to create a risk content type.

One statement to get you started.

  • Start with a list content type.
  • Parent content type is “item”.
